Hard to Blend (2025)

Description

Hard to Blend is a sculpture project in which I express something "hard" for me through a soft sculpture. The work is inspired by coastal protection concrete blocks designed to prevent erosion along shorelines. These structures sit between water and sand, belonging fully to neither. In this piece, the blocks become a self-portrait. I often feel that I do not easily blend into my surroundings, existing somewhere in between different places, cultures, and communities. At the same time, I am drawn to the landscape created by these structures. Arranged along the shoreline, they become part of the environment while quietly protecting it. There is something both functional and nostalgic about them. Through this work, I reflect on the feeling of standing between worlds—holding a place that may not fully blend in, yet still becoming part of the landscape.
